ALASKA FISH HOUSE DINING SHELTER

The next phase of the project was the addition of a dining shelter extending out over the water. The new single-story heavy timber structure of 1,700 sf evokes the character of a cannery mess hall, with long wood tables for seating. The interior is a mix of rough and refined with timber columns and beams connected by steel plates, and walls finished with rough cut cedar boards and smooth paneling. Large windows allow views of the fishing boats in the harbor below. A collection of paintings and photographs document the history of both the fishing and logging industries that were on the site, and are still an important part of the community.
