Alaska General Seafoods: New Bunkhouse
ALASKA GENERAL SEAFOODS, KETCHIKAN, AK
The Alaska General Seafoods-New Bunkhouse Project was designed to provide housing for seasonal workers at their waterfront processing facility in Ketchikan. The 4-story, wood framed structure houses up 100 staff at the height of the fish processing season. The design features large flexible rooms for up to 5 persons with shared bath and laundry facilities on each floor, and attractive low maintenance interior finishes.
In order to meet the accelerated 4-month construction schedule, the design team worked with AGS representatives and the selected contractor to come up with a design with repeating elements, allowing the wall and floor structure to be constructed off-site while foundation work was underway, then lifted into place by crane and quickly assembled.
